The hacienda owner is a grobo owning the Hacienda del Monte-Pelado on the Island of the White Leaf Desert. He is often seen at the small bar of the Hacienda, but can also be seen when preventing lechers to enter the women's steambath. His name is unknown, though it is commonly mistaken for "Masher".
Since roof access on the Hacienda is forbidden after an incident in Chez Luc, Twinsen has to find another way of getting on top of the Hacienda and to the telescope, used to see the Island across the Hacienda. He enters the women's steambath, and is eventually chased out by the Hacienda owner and thus is able to climb up the ladder behind the bar. Having seen the Island across the Hacienda, he is able to get there and get the protection spell.
Name confusement
When Twinsen walks into the women's steambath, one of the women exclaims "Masher!", signaling the Hacienda owner to come and kick Twinsen out. Because of that, the word "Masher" is mistaken for the grobo's name. In fact, "Masher" is slang word for a pervert.
